Find me on:

Fay Dunaway DogProject Blue Collar is an organization devoted to improving the perception of shelter dogs.  They exist to encourage adoption as the first option.

Project Blue Collar has selected our friends, Badass Brooklyn (yes, that is really their name) as their August “Shelter of the Month” partner for the "Support the Underdog® Collar" give back program.

The company’s signature Support the Underdog® Blue Collars are similar to cause-related silicone wristbands.  They are meant to adorn a pooch’s neck to identify him as a rescue. The collars provide an opportunity for dogs and owners to show their rescue pride and dispel the myth that shelter and rescue dogs are damaged.

“The collars serve as a conversation starter to help build the movement,” said Kristin Waters, Project Blue Collar co-founder. “Telling the story of your adopted dog inspires others to help, and encourages them to adopt, not shop, when adding a pet to the family.” Since launching in October 2012, over 2,100 dogs have been Blue Collared in 35 states and 4 countries.

The Support the Underdog® Collar Give Back program follows the “buy one, give one” model. Mighty Mouse dogFor every Blue Collar purchased in the month of August, Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue will receive one to sell for 100 percent profit. The funds are then used at the shelter’s discretion.

The collars, which are organic and made in the USA, retail for $10—and are available for purchase online at projectbluecollar.com or at Badass Brooklyn adoption events.

On the website, projectbluecollar.com, individuals are encouraged to tell their own rescue story and share photos of their furry family. Project Blue Collar also sells dog toys, apparel and car magnets – all aimed at raising awareness of rescue dog pride.

PeytonProject Blue Collar chose Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue as their August “Shelter of the Month” because of their out-of-the-box initiatives to helping dogs in danger. Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue is a 100% volunteer organization comprised of rescuers, fosters and volunteers dedicated to rescuing dogs from high kill shelters in the southern United States. Since Badass' inception in 2011, more than 900 dogs have been rescued and adopted into loving homes throughout the Tri-state area and northern New Jersey. As an all volunteer organization, all of Badass' resources go directly to rescuing, vetting, rehabilitating, and re-homing dogs.
