PET SAFETY MONTH: 30 tips in 30 days that can save your pet's life - Tip #5


If a dog or cat has a seizure, let the seizure run its course. Do not approach the pet. Remove other animals from the area as they will be very curious. Reduce stimulisuch as light and sound. Close doors so a disoriented animal doesn’t try to run away. Time the seizure and recall as many details as possible to share with your vet. If you have your phone handy, you can video the seizure.


Generally seizures last only a minute or two although it will seem like the longest minute or two of your life.


Four-percent of dogs in the US have some form of seizure disease and it is generally very controlable.
